Heights House recently got a fresh paint job. Unfortunately the owners were not able to go with their first choice of exposed brick due to some stubborn paint, but we think the darker pain looks pretty sharp.
The pre-engineered metal framing is up at the Maxwell! Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2021 and we are excited to see this timeless modern concept come to life. The Maxwell is a family owned wedding and event venue that will act as a flexible space near downtown Raleigh, great for both large occasions and intimate gatherings. Some of the building features include: a great room that can seat up to 250 people, a lounge with lots of natural light, a serene outdoor patio and cozy private suite.

This ca 1935 commercial building was on the brink of despair, with a collapsing roof and significant water damage, when David Maurer purchased it in early 2019. The first floor was originally an ice cream shop and then evolved into a restaurant and multiple later uses. The upper floor was originally the ice cream owner’s residence but later was transformed into three small apartments.
During these unprecedented times the Maurer Architecture team has been looking for a way to support our local community. In an effort to show our gratitude we contributed to ten organizations whose missions and impact are important to local relief. Each of these organizations were brought to us by different members of our staff.
Since 1892, the W. Carter Winkler house—positioned in the center of Wilkesboro, NC —has endured throughout many years of growth, expansion and revitalization of Downtown Historic Wilkesboro, while maintaining its small-town charm.
Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the house was lovingly restored by the Presnells after being purchased from Preservation NC. Check out the video below to see how the Winkler House looks now.
Maurer Architecture is so honored to have been involved in this beautiful restoration!
During this time of uncertainty, those of us at Maurer Architecture want to encourage you to keep our brethren in the hospitality industry in your thoughts and to please support them in any way possible. Here is an excerpt from the recently published article on Longleaf Hotel in downtown Raleigh:
Formerly an uneventful Days Inn that sat at the northern gateway to downtown Raleigh for decades, the newly opened Longleaf Hotel now welcomes drivers into downtown with bright neon letters reminiscent of the property’s mid-century motor lodge past.
The renovation of the hotel into a vintage-style 57-room motor lodge with modern twists is a first for LODEN Properties, the Raleigh-based developer that undertook the project.
