Our own David Maurer presented today at the North Carolina Main Street Director's Conference in Mount Airy. The interactive session focused on “Activating Your Downtown Storefronts,” exploring storefront designs and ideas that successfully engage the public, create interest and enliven the street. Thanks to the NC Department of Commerce and the NC Main Street & Rural Planning Center for inviting us to be a part of this wonderful annual conference!
Union Special, the bakery cafe helmed by Andrew Ullom of AC Restaurant fame, will soon open its doors at Gateway Plaza along the Capital Blvd corridor. The bakers are already hard at work and the open, airy cafe space is almost complete! You can look forward to pastries, bread, breakfast all day and lunch with a dedicated local focus, as Ullom will be baking with all roller-milled and stone ground flours made in NC!
James Goodnight, Old School Rebuilder & Co. and Maurer Architecture received the honor of two 2019 Preservation Awards for Adaptive Reuse at the Preservation Awards Ceremony at St James Parish on May 22. A recent meetup was held at 217 Brew Works Brewery in Wilson, NC to discuss ideas for the amenities at the upcoming entrepreneurial space: Gig East Exchange. Construction documents are now complete and we are currently bidding this project. Bids will open on May 7, 2019.
