Be on the lookout for the hair salon, Alter Ego, on New Bern Avenue coming soon! This space serves as a time capsule of Raleigh history, as it was a former dry cleaner established in 1946. Initial demo at Raiford hall came with a few surprises! Perfectly preserved tongue and groove wood ceilings, a tiny window, and a coffered plaster ceiling were all discovered as the dropped ceilings and other interesting 80’s design decisions came down.
This project was about honoring the original mid century structure while building a contemporary future. Our goal was to honor the travel lodge era, while creating spaces unique to The Longleaf - preserving the existing facade, removing the arched soffits and bulky columns, and reintroducing the clean lines and slender structure.
