The Pittsboro Community House is complete and ready for activity!
Originally constructed in 1936, this building once served as the Town Library and later as a Union Hall for the local textile mill. More recently the space has been used for events. In 2023 the Town of Pittsboro decided it was time to renovate and brought in Maurer Architecture to lead the design process. The focus of the project was to maintain the building’s character and charm while updating with modern amenities as well as increasing accessibility.
The original stone walls and amazing stone fireplace were preserved, and the existing wood windows were repaired without needing to be replaced. Initially the plan was to preserve the original hardwood floors, but due to extensive wear and tear over the years new flooring was required. Other updates include: new lighting and HVAC, a new catering kitchen, ADA restrooms and an ADA exterior ramp was installed.
With a spacious front porch and a main hall that can accommodate ~140 people, it’s a wonderful space for gathering. Swipe for images of this beautifully restored stone house!
