Surprise! The construction team discovered an enormous beehive inside the exterior wall of the Andrews Duncan house, just as construction started. A local beekeeper was called in to remove the bees and extract the unbelievable amount of honey - 8 gallons to be exact.
The bees were vacuumed into a container and relocated to the beekeeper’s residence, including the queen – who was found in a nearby magnolia tree.
Sustainability is important to our firm and we appreciate when historical preservation and environmental conservation come together. As Carl Elefante once said, “The greenest building is the one that already exists”.
